Applications are being accepted to fill the Ward 28 Councillor vacancy by appointment

Toronto City Council will appoint a qualified elector at a special meeting of City Council on November 2, 2017 to fill the vacancy of:

  • Office of Councillor, Ward 28, Toronto Centre – Rosedale

 The successful applicant will serve for the remainder of the 2014 – 2018 term of office ending on November 30, 2018.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for appointment a person must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years of age
  • a resident of the City of Toronto, or own or rent property in the City of Toronto (or the spouse of the owner or renter)
  • not legally prohibited from voting, or from holding municipal office

Application Process

Interested individuals must complete:

  • a Declaration of Qualification;
  • Consent of Nominee; and
  • provide identification showing name, signature and qualifying address within the City of Toronto.

Application forms are available between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the City Clerk’s Office Service Counter, City Hall 1st Floor West (in the Rotunda), 100 Queen Street West. They will also be distributed and collected at the information session on October 17, 2017.

Applicants are welcome to submit letters, biographies or related documents to be considered by City Council in support of their candidacy.  This is not a requirement. If you are providing any additional materials, please submit them with your application.

Please note any information provided, including a candidate’s personal information becomes part of the public record and will be available for public inspection.

The deadline for filing an application is 4:30 p.m. on October 23, 2017 at the City Clerk’s Office, Service Counter, City Hall 1st Floor West (in the Rotunda), 100 Queen Street West.

Do not sign the form in advance. The form must be filed in person so that it can be signed before a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits at the City Clerk’s Office Service Counter.

Information Night

An information session will be held on October 17, 2017 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall, 100 Queen Street West.

Staff will provide an overview of the appointment process.

Applications will be available and City Clerk’s Office staff will be on hand to assist applicants, answer any questions and commission application forms.

Applications and supporting documentation will be accepted at the session.

Special Meeting of City Council to Appoint a Candidate for Ward 28

City Council will hear from, ask questions of applicants, and vote to appoint a person to fill the vacancy at a special meeting on November 2, 2017 starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall, 100 Queen Street West.

Withdrawing your Application

You can withdraw your application at any time up to the start of the Special Meeting of City Council on November 2, 2017.

Withdrawing an application must be done in writing to the City Clerk:

  • by email from the address listed on your application form
  • by fax to 416-392-2980
  • in person at the City Clerk’s Office Service Counter, City Hall, 1st floor West (in the Rotunda), 100 Queen Street West
